We all heard about Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and the CEO of Facebook. He is one of the youngest billionaires in the world. He managed to have a huge success and there is even a movie about his making process of Facebook, Social Network which says \u2018\u2019You don\u2019t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.\u2019\u2019 So, let’s take a deeper look into his life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mark Zuckerberg’s Life<\/b><\/h2>\n

Mark Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in New York. He had a good childhood with his educated and middle-class parents. His father, Edward Zuckerberg, was a dentist who worked from home and his mother, Karen Zuckerberg, was a psychiatrist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His interest in computers started to emerge in his youth. He developed a texting program named \u2018\u2019Zucknet\u2019\u2019 at the age of 12 and his family used it to communicate and his father used the program in his dental office to schedule his patients. He also developed a bunch of games for fun with his friends. Once his parents realized his interest in computers, they concentrated on improving it by hiring a tutor, David Newman who was going to teach him coding and computers once in a week. In the meanwhile, Zuckerberg started taking graduate courses at Mercy College. He was a prodigy according to his tutor, Newman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Education<\/b><\/h3>\n

Zuckerberg later studied in Philips Exeter Academy where he was the captain of the fencing team and he had a diploma in classics. He kept his enthusiasm for computers and developed an early music software Pandora, he called it \u2018\u2019Synapse\u2019\u2019. Microsoft and AOL wanted to buy the software and hire him as a young developer but he refused the offers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2002, he got into Harvard University. In his sophomore year, he managed to have fame as a \u2018\u2019go-to software developer\u2019\u2019 and he developed a program, called \u2018\u2019Course Match\u2019\u2019 which helped the students to choose a course based on others\u2019 selections.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he created a program, called \u2018\u2019Facemash\u2019\u2019, which compared the photos of students and allowed them to vote the more attractive one. The program was banned after the school\u2019s administration found it highly inappropriate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on his coding skills and success of his programs, 3 of his friends, Divya Narendra, Cameron, and Tyler Winklevoss wanted to work with him on a project called Harvard Connection which is a social network site to use the information of Harvard students\u2019 networks to create a dating site. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg started to work on the Facebook project with his friends, Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin. The site was designed for Harvard students to create their profiles and communicate with each other. Zuckerberg and his friends ran their project at Harvard until June 2004.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Facebook<\/b><\/h3>\n

After that Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard to work on his project and moved his company to California. By the end of 2004, Facebook nearly had 1 million users.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0In 2005, Accel Partners invested 12.7 million dollars for Facebook which was only accessible for Ivy League students. After this huge boost, Zuckerberg expanded access to Facebook for other colleges, high schools and international schools and Facebook had 5.5 million users at the end of 2005. Seeing that Facebook was widely popular and had many users, some big companies wanted to use it to advertise their brand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zuckerberg had many offers for his social network site from very big associations like Yahoo, MTV Network but he turned down the offers and he kept improving Facebook and worked with different developers and added new features.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While his business was growing widely, the creators of Harvard Connection claimed that Zuckerberg stole the idea of Facebook from their project and demanded him to compensate for their losses. A settlement agreement was valued at $65 million in 2008. However, the founders of Harvard Connection claimed that they were misled regarding the stock value but the court was lost and they later announced that they changed their mind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While they were lots of speculations and criticisms over Zuckerberg, Facebook continued to grow and he was declared one of the youngest billionaires of the world and \u2018\u2019Person of The Year, 2010\u2019\u2019 by Time magazine. He continues to be one of the most-known billionaires of the world with $62 billion worth according to Forbes.<\/span><\/p>\n
