While a part of it is located in the South Marmara Region, the other part is located in the Aegean Region and the city has a border to two seas; the Aegean and Marmara seas. It\u2019s one of the 6 counties being neighbour of the two seas at the same time. It\u2019s located in Northwest Anatolia. Its neighbour counties are Bursa and K\u00fctahya in the east, Manisa and \u0130zmir in the south and \u00c7anakkale in the north. It\u2019s also a neighbour of Lesbos Island of Greece in its province called Ayval\u0131k. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Regarding the 2019 reports, Bal\u0131kesir has a population of 1.228.620 people. Its altitude is 145 meters. It has 20 provinces and municipalities. It\u2019s famous with olive, olive oil and its sweet made of unsalted cheese. The 6th and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>9th Central Jet Command Posts are located in Bal\u0131kesir. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>History of Bal\u0131kesir<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Its name comes from its central province witch is separated in two parts today. Its former name was Karesi and it was changed in 1926 as Bal\u0131kesir. There are different stories about the history of this name. It\u2019s said that the Roman Emperor Hadrianus used to go for a hunt around Bal\u0131kesir. Then he got a tower built here and this tower was named as Paleo Kastro. It\u2019s believed that the name Bal\u0131kesir comes from that name. Paleo Kastro means the old fort. The other story says that the name comes from the Persian commander Bal\u0131-Kisra raiding the area. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The research made in Bal\u0131kesir showed that the first settlements in the city date back to 8000-3000 BC. In \u0130nbo\u011faz\u0131 caves located 8 kilometres away from Havran, ruins of Paleolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic times were found. It was also a part of Anatolian Seljuks and the Ottoman Empire. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Where To Visit In Bal\u0131kesir<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In Bal\u0131kesir, there are lots of places to visit. It\u2019s visited mostly in the summertime and it has a lot of good beaches which have been awarded. Ida Mountains are the most important natural sources of the city. You can also visit, the Big Clock, Za\u011fnos Pa\u015fa Mosque, Y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m Mosque, Bal\u0131kesir National Forces Museum, Antandros Antique City, Cunda Island, Kyzikos Antique City, Kap\u0131da\u011f Peninsula, Ida Mountains National Park, Sar\u0131msakl\u0131 Beach, Ku\u015fcenneti National Park,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>and G\u00f6nen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Tourism in Bal\u0131kesir<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sea tourism in Bal\u0131kesir is so developed. It\u2019s one of the most important tourism centres in Turkey. There are also historical sites in the county. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How to Go to the City<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are two airports in the city. One of them is in Alt\u0131eyl\u00fcl and the other one is in Edremit. Edremit Koca Seyit Airport has been used for international flights since 2010. Alt\u0131eyl\u00fcl Bal\u0131kesir Airport was opened in 2019. The city has a border with two cities so sea transportation is also a choice. It\u2019s possible to go to the city with Sea Buses. You can also take a train to some stations in the city. From Ayval\u0131k, a province of Bal\u0131kesir, it\u2019s also possible to go to Lesbos Island of Greece with ferries. The city also has a great freeway connection.
