<\/a> G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane is a province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. Its capital district is also called G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane. The province is in northern Turkey, bordering Bayburt to the east, Trabzon to the north, Giresun and Erzincan to the west. The province is surrounded by the mountains. The most well-known mountain is in the north of G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane, Zigana-Trabzon mountains. G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane covers an area of 6,575 km\u00b2 and its population is 162,748(2018).<\/span><\/p>\n

History<\/span><\/h2>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane is 1150 meter higher from the sea level and it is located on the valley of Har\u015fit River. The location of the province is important throughout history because the city has rich mining areas for silver and bronze and also, it is located on the historical trade road which is Silkroad. G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane means silver house, its name comes from its mining sources actually.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Ancient history, the first mention of the province in the written text is in the Xenophanes\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Anabasis<\/span><\/em>. Xenophanes mentioned Drills which are a Tzan\/Laz tribe from Torul. Torul is still one of the districts of G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane. Drills portrayed as the best warriors of the Black Sea in\u00a0<\/span>Anabasis.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In history, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane has been gone through different kinds of empires and ruling systems. After being in the borders of the Ottoman Empire, with the establishment of the Republic of Turkey G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane has become a province involving Torul, Kelkit, \u015eiran, and Bayburt. In 1989, Bayburt has become a province and segregated from G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane. Today, it is still an ongoing issue between the citizens that where they are from; G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane or Bayburt?<\/span><\/p>\n

Districts and geography<\/span><\/h2>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane has 6 districts which are G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane, Kelkit, K\u00f6se, Torul and \u015eiran (G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane as capital district).<\/span><\/p>\n

Generally, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane is a rough country with mountains. The most important agricultural area in the province is the Kelkit valley where some plain areas are available. Despite the province is in the Black Sea region, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane has generally Eastern Anatolian region continental climate. It is very humid especially on the north sides of the province.<\/span><\/p>\n

As mentioned before, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane is surrounded by mountains. There are natural parks and lakes which are preserved. Trekking in the natural areas of G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane with the surroundings of animals and birds is a common activity among the tourists and visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Zigana Pass is in G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane province too. It is closer to the border with Trabzon province. It is one of the longest tunnels in Turkey. It bonds G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane and Trabzon at the Black Sea coast. There is also a popular ski-resort. The pass is being covered with snow five months in a year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Culture, historic sites, and tourism<\/span><\/h2>\n

Because the province is located in the Black Sea region its culture based on the traditions of Laz people. Its cuisine is very delicious. Maybe you have heard about kuymak, borani, mant\u0131, etc. these are local dishes of the province and Black Sea region. They have special dessert(food) called \u2018k\u00f6me\u2019 which tourists love to buy when they went to G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane. It is like a high energy bar, it\u2019s made from walnut and pestil(herle).<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also see a variety of folklore dances in their culture with instruments like kemen\u00e7e, tulum, davul, and zurna. The popular name for their folklore dance is \u2018Horan\u2019 which is again a dance style that belongs to the Black Sea region. It has a variety of kinds depended on the province and village traditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to its rich historical background, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane has many historical sites like churches, mosques, and castles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Village of Sadak<\/span><\/h3>\n

Ancient Roman Empire used there as a place for protecting the Euphrates. It was the most important military camp of the Roman Empire in the east. In the 15th century, they built there an aqueduct with 47 compartments. Today, Sadak is protected by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It is 99 km far from the city center of G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Santa Harabeleri<\/span><\/h3>\n

Santa is established by Rums in the 17th century. It is located in Dumanl\u0131 village which is 72 km far from the city center. Santa is an important place because of its religious and cultural background. The houses are all made from stone and there are some churches in the village.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a very good place to do sightseeing. Santa \u00c7ak\u0131ll\u0131 and Santa Terzili are examples of the historical churches in the area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Krom valley and \u0130mera village<\/span><\/h3>\n

Krom is an archeological site and protected area. In the valley, there are 17 churches and chapels. It is known that Rums and Turks are lived together in this valley and the valley is reflecting its ethnic background in that perspective. It is obvious that the valley has seen a variety of cultures and religions. It is also famous for its trekking route.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Imrea village is located in the Krom valley. It is 37 km far from the city center. Imera Abbey is the most famous historical site in this area. In the gate of this abbey, it says this construction was built in 1859 which is strange because it says the date is 1350 in the written text. The Abbey is still steady, you can visit and witness the history with your own eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Canca Castle\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

It is a historical site and it is 1530 m above the ground. It located near the old S\u00fcleymaniye neighborhood. You can watch panoramically the sight of the old town and nature from here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Old S\u00fcleymaniye neighborhood is also a nice place to visit for its historical mosques, churches, and hamams. The old culture is still living in the spirits of this town. The town was important for its silver mining areas back in the times of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the Ottoman Emperor.<\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane mansions<\/span><\/h3>\n

They are important for their architectural constructions. The buildings look like the form of art and they are carrying the spirit of the cultures and traditions of the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zigana tourism area<\/span><\/h3>\n

It is located in the Torul district and it is 45 km far from the city center of G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane province. You can visit the Limni Lake in the Zigana village and you can enjoy nature there. You can go to a picnic or camp in this natural park.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zengin g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015f ve bronz maden kaynaklar\u0131yla tarih boyunca \u00f6nemli bir lokasyona sahip olmu\u015ftur ve ayr\u0131ca tarihteki b\u00fcy\u00fck ticaret yollar\u0131ndan biri olan \u0130pekyolu\u2019nun \u00fczerinde bulunur. G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015f evi demektir ve ismini bu zengin g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015f madeni kaynaklar\u0131ndan alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. <\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane ilinin ilk bahsinin ge\u00e7ti\u011fi yer, antik \u00e7a\u011fda, Ksenophanes\u2019in Anabasis\u2019indedir. Ksenophanes bir Tzan\/Laz kabilesi olan ve Torul\u2019da ya\u015fayan Drillerden bahsetmi\u015ftir. Torul, hala G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane\u2019nin il\u00e7elerinden birinin ismidir. Driller Karadenizin en sava\u015f\u00e7\u0131 askerleri olarak tasvir edilmi\u015ftir.<\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane\u2019nin bulundu\u011fu b\u00f6lge tarih boyunca farkl\u0131 imparatorluklar ve y\u00f6netim \u015fekilleri g\u00f6rm\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr. Osmanl\u0131 imparatorlu\u011fu s\u0131n\u0131rlar\u0131 i\u00e7erisinde bulunmas\u0131ndan sonra, T\u00fcrkiye Cumhuriyetinin kurulmas\u0131yla birlikte Torul, Kelkit, \u015eiran ve Bayburt\u2019u da kapsayan bir il haline gelmi\u015ftir. 1989 senesinde, Bayburt G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane\u2019den ayr\u0131l\u0131p kendisi bir il unvan\u0131 kazanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane ilinin 6 adet il\u00e7esi vard\u0131r; G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane, Kelkit, K\u00f6se, Torul ve \u015eiran.<\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane genel olarak da\u011flarla \u00e7evrili engebeli bir ildir. \u0130lin en \u00f6nemli tar\u0131m alan\u0131 Kelkit vadisinde tar\u0131ma elveri\u015fli bulunan d\u00fcz aland\u0131r. Karadeniz b\u00f6lgesinde bulunmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen genellikle \u0130\u00e7 Anadolu karasal iklimi g\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00fcr. \u0130lin kuzey kesimleri genellikle nemlidir.<\/span><\/p>\n

Daha \u00f6nce de bahsedildi\u011fi gibi, G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane da\u011flarla kapl\u0131d\u0131r. Korunan do\u011fal parklar ve bu do\u011fal parklar\u0131n i\u00e7erisinde g\u00f6ller vard\u0131r. T\u00fcrkiye\u2019de bulunan en uzun t\u00fcnellerden biri olma \u00f6zelli\u011fini ta\u015f\u0131r. G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane\u2019yi ve Trabzon\u2019u Karadeniz k\u0131y\u0131 kesimi taraf\u0131nda birbirine ba\u011flar. Ay\u0131ca burada \u00fcnl\u00fc kar ve kayak tesisi de bulunmaktad\u0131r. \u0130l\u00e7e Karadeniz b\u00f6lgesinde yer ald\u0131\u011f\u0131ndan dolay\u0131, k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fc ve adetleri Lazlara aittir. Mutfa\u011f\u0131 \u00e7ok lezzetlidir. Kuymak, mant\u0131, borani ve bunun gibi yiyecekleri duymu\u015fsunuzdur, bunlar Karadeniz b\u00f6lgesine ait \u00f6zel lezzetlerdir. \u2018K\u00f6me\u2019 ad\u0131nda ceviz ve pestil(herle)den yap\u0131lan bir tatl\u0131lar\u0131 vard\u0131r. Y\u00fcksek enerji kaynakl\u0131 bir bara benzer turistler ve ziyaret\u00e7iler G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane\u2019ye u\u011frad\u0131klar\u0131nda bu lezzeti almay\u0131 \u00e7ok severler.<\/span><\/p>\n

G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane y\u00f6resinde bir\u00e7ok farkl\u0131 \u00e7e\u015fit folklor danslar\u0131 da g\u00f6zlemleyebilirsiniz. Roma \u0130mparatorlu\u011fu buray\u0131 F\u0131rat Nehrini koruma ama\u00e7l\u0131 askeri bir \u00fcst olarak kullanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Roma \u0130mparatorlu\u011funun do\u011fudaki en \u00f6nemli askeri \u00fcstlerinde biridir. 15. y\u00fczy\u0131lda 47 g\u00f6zl\u00fc bir su kemeri in\u015fa edilmi\u015ftir. G\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczde Sadak, K\u00fclt\u00fcr ve Turizm Bakanl\u0131\u011f\u0131 taraf\u0131ndan koruma alt\u0131na al\u0131nm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Vadinin bir\u00e7ok k\u00fclt\u00fcr ve din g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc a\u00e7\u0131k bir \u015fekilde g\u00f6rebilirsiniz.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ayn\u0131 zamanda y\u00fcr\u00fcy\u00fc\u015f rotas\u0131yla da me\u015fhur bir b\u00f6lgedir.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u0130mera k\u00f6y\u00fc ise Kram vadisinde yer al\u0131r. \u015eehir merkezine 37 km uzakl\u0131ktad\u0131r. \u0130mera Manast\u0131r\u0131 b\u00f6lgedeki en me\u015fhur yap\u0131d\u0131r. Canca Kalesi<\/span><\/h3>\n

Tarihi bir b\u00f6lgedir ve yerde 1530 metre yukar\u0131da bulunmaktad\u0131r. Eski S\u00fcleymaniye mahallesinin yan\u0131nda bulunmaktad\u0131r. Buradan panoromik olarak b\u00f6lgeyi, mahalleyi ve do\u011fay\u0131 izleyebilirsiniz. <\/span><\/p>\n
