Bayburt is located in the North East Anatolia region and it is a kind of bridge between the Black Sea and Anatolia. Bayburt is alson is on the silk road which is another important point about it.\u00a0You can see this city just near the \u00c7oruh River. History of Bayburt goes to the year of 3000 B. C. Climate of the city is continental because it is between the air circulation of the East Black Sea and East Anatolia. That is why summers are hot and dry, winters are cold and rainy in Bayburt.<\/p>\n
According to the data of 2020 the population of Bayburt is 85.762. Survey of it is 3741 km2 and the plate code is 69.<\/p>\n
As we wrote before, Bayburt has an ancient history which stands to 3000 B. C. The city was set by Azzi clan 8000 years ago. Also this beautiful city was told by Marco Polo and Saint \u00c7elebi who are famous travellers in their travel diaries.\u00a0In 1647, Saint \u00c7elebi wrote about Bayburt and he told that at that time, there were almost ten thousands people shopping in the Mehmed Bey Mosque Bazaar on Sundays. Again according to the writings of Saint \u00c7elebi, there were 300 hundred shops and a bedesten (covered turkish bazaar). He wrote that some valuable carpets and prayer rugs had been exporting. During the war between Ottoman and Russia, Bayburt was ruled by Russians in 1829. However, this situation did not last long and Ottoman Empire got back Bayburt with Edirne agreement.\u00a0After proclamation of the Turkish Turkishc, Bayburt became a district of Erzurum and then G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane in 1927.<\/p>\n
There are only three districts in Bayburt which are as below;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Demir\u00f6z\u00fc<\/p>\n
\u2022 City center<\/p>\n
The castle was built onto a hill that you can see the whole city from the top of it and Bayburt Castle is one of the symbols of the city. There are marks of Rome, Byzantine, Armenian, Arabs and some other important civilisations on the castle. It is also called as \u201c\u00c7inima\u00e7in Castle\u201d by local people and it is not known the date and builder of the castle.<\/p>\n
Tower\u00a0It is located in City center and its height is 21 metres. This clock tower can be seen by anyone around the city center with its gorgeous physical structure.\u00a0The tower was made by people of Bayburt as a result of war of independence. Because they went to different cities to war and saw a lot of clock tower in these cities. They decided to have one.\u00a0They started to build the clock tower with the proclamation of the Turkish Republic and completed it after one year.<\/p>\n
These waterfalls are located in Sar\u0131kayalar village so they were named as Sar\u0131kayalar. Around this area there are two waterfalls; one in the entrance of the village and one in the middle of the village. If you want to relax or be a whole with nature, you should definitely see Sar\u0131kayalar Waterfalls.<\/p>\n
This bridge is 30 km far from Bayburt \u2013 G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane route of the Silk Road. Its length is 43,20 metres and its width is 4 metres. Morgan Bridge has the same specifications with traditional Seljuq structures and thin carved yellow stone and rubble stone were used in the building of the bridge.<\/p>\n
It can be said that there are three fields of tourism in Bayburt; nature tourism, religious tourism and cultural tourism.<\/p>\n
It is possible to go to Bayburt via air way or highway. If you prefer air way you can use Erzurum International Airport to arrive Erzurum and then you can pass to Bayburt easily by an interprovincial bus. Because Erzurum is 50 km away from Bayburt\u2019s city center.\u00a0If you want to use highway by your own car, you need to know that Bayburt is 1.100 km away from Istanbul, 780 km away from Ankara, 1.150 km away from Antalya, 1300 km away from Izmir and 710 km away from Gaziantep.<\/p>\n
According to the protocol, the governor who is assigned by the president of the Republic comes first. Local people who live in the borders of municipality select the mayor. Some of these voters are also members of district municipality council and they can also vote for district municipality council.\u00a0All of the voters in the province decide who will be in the province council by voting for it.\u00a0Central administration consists of the governed and province managers. Local administration consists of the mayors and municipality council.<\/p>\n
