The city is founded in the valley of Munzur which is known for its picturesque appearance. It is surrounded by high mountains called Munzur mountains.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Population<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The population of the city is 32815 as of 2011. It is one of the least populated province centers of Turkey.<\/p>\n<h2>Districts<\/h2>\n<p>Tunceli consists of eight districts:<\/p>\n<p>Tunceli (Center district)<\/p>\n<p>\u00c7emi\u015fgezek<\/p>\n<p>Hozat<\/p>\n<p>Mazgirt<\/p>\n<p>Naz\u0131miye<\/p>\n<p>Ovac\u0131k<\/p>\n<p>Pertek<\/p>\n<p>P\u00fcl\u00fcm\u00fcr<\/p>\n<h2>Small\u00a0 History<\/h2>\n<p>During the Ottoman Empire, Tunceli (then known as Kalan) was a part of the region named Dersim. In 1847 Dersim was declared a sanjak. The capital of the sanjak was Hozat. During the Republican period Tunceli Province was established in 1935. In 1946 the former town of Kalan was renamed as Tunceli and it was declared as the capital city of the province. As a result of the Turkish campaign of &#8220;Turkification&#8221; Tunceli became a main target of Turkish officials after the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923. Inside Tunceli you can use bus, minibus and taxi as transportation. Or you can rent a car.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Management<\/h2>\n<p>Tunceli is managed by TKP and the mayor is Fatih Mehmet Ma\u00e7o\u011flu.
