It\u2019s the most crowded 10th city in Turkey. According to the reports of 2019, it has a population of 1.840.425 people. Its governor is Ali \u0130hsan Su. Its survey is 15.620 kilometres square and its altitude is 5 meters. Mersin\u2019s licence plaque code is 33. Mersin is a seaport and it has the biggest port in Turkey. Regarding the Turkish Statistics Institution (TUIK) reports published on 4 February 2020, Mersin has 13 provinces and municipalities and 805 neighbourhoods. Tarsus, Toroslar, Yeni\u015fehir, Akdeniz, Mezitli, Erdemli, Silifke, Anamur, Mut, Bozyaz\u0131, G\u00fcnar, Ayd\u0131nc\u0131k and \u00c7aml\u0131yayla are the provinces of Mersin. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>A Short History Of Mersin<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mersin\u2019s oldest name that is known is Kizzuvatna. It became Kue in Hittite era and Kilikya in the classic era. The digs that were made in this area showed that the first settlements in Mersin date back to Neolithic and Copper Ages. The digs and studies that have been done in G\u00f6zl\u00fckule mound and Yumuktepe have shown that this area was an important centre in the past. During these studies, it\u2019s been shown that Mersin welcomed different civilizations during the history; like Hurri, Luvi, Arzava, Kizzuvatna, Hittite, Assyrian and Babil people. In 528 BC, it became a Persian city till in 334 BC it became a Macedonian city. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During the Antique Greek Era, its name was Zephyrion. It\u2019s possible to see this name in many antique books. Regarding the ancient books, the trade was important in the city and Mersin even had its own money then. It then became Kilikya as a part of the Roman Empire. Earlier in the 7. century, Arabs conquered Mersin. In the end, in 1517 it became an Ottoman city. It became a county in 1924.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Where To Go in Mersin<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Mersin is one of the biggest cities in the eastern Mediterranean region and there are lots of historical and cultural sites to see in the city. It also has natural beauty that must be seen. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Yerk\u00f6pr\u00fc Falls<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s located in the Mut-Ermenek road in Mersin. There\u2019s another fall in Konya with the same name but the one in Mersin is different. It\u2019s around 2.5 hours to go to Yerk\u00f6pr\u00fc Falls from Mersin by car. It\u2019s such a natural beauty that you should see. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Aynal\u0131g\u00f6l Cave<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s located 7.5 southeast of Ayd\u0131nc\u0131k province of Mersin between the Sancak cape and Kurtini Creek. It was found by a shepherd par hazard. It\u2019s possible to go to the cave using the path or through the sea. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mersin Marina<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s a shopping mall and marina located in Yeni\u015fehir. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Uzuncabur\u00e7 Olba Antique City<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Uzuncaburc is a Hellenistic period city. It was named as Uzuncaburc by Turkish as there\u2019s a long castle in the antique city. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>K\u0131zkalesi Castle<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">K\u0131zkalesi, also known as the Sea Castle, is located on a little island. It\u2019s 600 meters away from the land. It\u2019s known that it was built in 1199 by Leon I regarding an inscription found in the castle. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mersin Archeology Museum<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s the biggest museum in Mersin. It was founded as an archeology museum but there\u2019s also an etnography section in the museum. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Alahan Convent<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s a big church site near Mut province of Mersin. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Men Rocks ( Adam Kayalar) <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s a canyon famous for its stone rubbings in Mersin. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How to Go to Mersin?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s possible to go to Mersin via railway, freeway and airway. The closest airport to the city is Adana \u015eakirpa\u015fa Airport which is 66 kilometres away from Mersin. You can go to Mersin from the airport by hiring a car or using the airport shuttles which departs every half an hour. If you want to go to Mersin via car, it\u2019s around 10 hours from \u0130stanbul and \u0130zmir and 5 hours from Ankara. There are also regular bus services from big cities of Turkey to Mersin. B\u00f6lgede yap\u0131lan kaz\u0131lar, Mersin\u2019deki ilk yerle\u015fmenin Cilal\u0131 Ta\u015f Devri ve Bak\u0131r \u00c7a\u011f\u0131\u2019na dayanmaktad\u0131r. Buluntular \u015fehrin tarih boyunca \u00f6nemli bir merkez oldu\u011funu g\u00f6sterir. Karadan 600 metre Uzakl\u0131ktad\u0131r. Kalede bulunan yaz\u0131tlara g\u00f6re, kalenin 1199\u2019da I. Leon taraf\u0131ndan yapt\u0131r\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fclmektedir. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mersin Arkeoloji M\u00fczesi<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">Mersin\u2019deki en B\u00fcy\u00fck m\u00fczedir.
