Without a verb, we cannot understand the aim of the sentence. Verbs describe our acts and purposes. Compound verbs are the form of a verb that is being constructed with the unification of multiple verbs. A compound verb actually has the meaning of one act, it is a single verb made up of more than one word.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">If you see the difference between a single verb and a compound verb, everything will be more clear;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Sally <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">washes<\/span> the dishes. (single verb)<\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Sally <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">is washing<\/span> the dishes. (compound verb)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">play<\/span> the piano. (single verb)<\/span><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">will play<\/span> the piano. (compound verb)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">There are three basic forms of compound verbs, let\u2019s learn them!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">1) Phrasal Verbs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">A phrasal verb is a multi-word verb which is made up of with verb and an adverb or a preposition.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Separable Phrasal Verbs<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">These compound phrasal verbs can be used separately in the sentence. The object may come after the following phrasal verb or it may separate the two parts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">There is one rule when you\u2019re using phrasal verbs; if the object of the following phrasal verb is a pronoun, the two parts of the phrasal verb must be separated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Examples<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">She has to <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">bring<\/span> it <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">up<\/span>, they need to know what\u2019s going on. (bring up- mentioning about something)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I need to <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">call<\/span> this organization <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">off<\/span> due to my health problems. (call off- canceling)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">My friend didn\u2019t <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">give <\/span>my pencil <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">back<\/span>. (give back- returning some object)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">looked<\/span> my exam paper <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">over<\/span> in the last minutes of the exam. (look over-checking and looking)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">You have to <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">pick<\/span> these trashes<span style=\"color: #c9211e;\"> up<\/span> from the ground. (pick up-lifting something)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Our teacher <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">put<\/span> our exam <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">off <\/span>to another day. (put off-postponing)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">She <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">turned<\/span> my offer <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">down<\/span>. (turn down-rejecting)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Inseparable Phrasal Verbs(Transitive)<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">It is the inseparable form of phrasal verbs that you cannot separate the \u2018meaning giving verb\u2019 and the other part of the phrasal verb. It is not that complicated; if you put a pronoun and another between them, the meaning will be disappeared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Examples<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I am going to <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">look after<\/span> my brother while our parents are abroad. (look after-taking care of something or someone)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">We should <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">go over<\/span> this paper again. (go over-reviewing, checking)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">She is <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">looking into<\/span> the situation for founding a solution to this problem. (look into- investigating)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">ran into<\/span> my old friend from high school in the street yesterday. (run into- meet, coincidentally meeting)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Three-Verb Phrasal Verbs<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">There is no rule about these phrasal verbs, they consist of three words with prepositions, verbs, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Examples<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">You should <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">get rid of<\/span> this dress, it is ugly. (get rid of-throw away, eliminate)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I cannot <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">keep up with<\/span> your actions. (keep up with-maintain pace with)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I\u2019m <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">looking forward to <\/span>seeing you again! (look forward to-waiting, exciting with pleasure)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">I <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">checked up on<\/span> my brother if he\u2019s doing his homework or not. (get along with-having a good relationship with someone)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Intransitive Phrasal Verbs<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">These phrasal verbs are not followed by an object.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Examples<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Our washing machine has <span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">broken down<\/span>. (show off-boasting,displaying)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">2)Verbs with Auxiliaries<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">An auxiliary verb is called \u2018a helping verb\u2019 too. They are used with the main verb to express the main verb\u2019s mood or tense. The most common auxiliary verbs are; \u2018to be\u2019, \u2018to have\u2019 and \u2018to do\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0e101a;\">Also, modal auxiliaries are in this group too. Both words would be verbs or one word would be a noun or a descriptor.
