EPHESUS PRESENTATION<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Ephesus is an important ancient city, which is located in Sel\u00e7uk province of \u0130zmir. It was one of the 12 cities of Ionia at the classic greek era. Its history dates back to BC 6000, to the Neolithic age. It was added to UNESCO Temporary World Heritage List in 1994 and in 2015, it became a world heritage. <\/span><\/p>\n

The History of Ephesus<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

As said before, it\u2019s history dates back to BC 6.000. Ephesus was an important city for all the civilizations it hosted. It\u2019s thought that Ephesus was first founded by some women warriors and its name was Arzawa which means the city of the Goddess. Though there is no certain information about that time. With the prince of Athens, Androklos, the city became more important and got stronger. When the King of Pergamon, Attolos, gave the Ephesus to the Romans as a part of his heritage, it became the most important trade centre of the region. In 1304, Ephesus became a Turkish city. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Important Structures in Ephesus<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Ephesus is a great city but there are some important structures that have to be known. <\/span><\/p>\n

Artemis Temple<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Yet it has been harmed during the history because of earthquakes and so. Now there\u2019s nearly nothing left of the temple. But we can still see that it was a gorgeous structure once. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ephesus Ancient Theatre<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s the biggest open-air theatre of ancient times. It has a capacity of 24.000 people. The stage of the theatre has been taken down but the seats are in good condition. Besides being the biggest theatre, this place is important for Christianity as it\u2019s where St. Paul used to give his first preaches. <\/span><\/p>\n

Celsius Library<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s one of the most beautiful structures in Ephesus. It was constructed by the governor of Ephesus, Celsius, in his son\u2019s name in AD 106. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mother Mary House<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s where mother Mary is thought to have spent her last years with St. John. <\/span><\/p>\n

How to Go to Ephesus<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

You can go to Ephesus by car. It\u2019s so close to \u0130zmir city centre. If you want, you can also take a train. The train station of Sel\u00e7uk is 650 meters to Ephesus ancient city. If you want to take a plane to \u0130zmir, Adnan Menderes Airport is 43 minutes away from the Ephesus ancient city by car. <\/span><\/p>\n
