There is a saying that goes like this: \u201cDogs are man\u2019s best friend\u201d. It turns out it is the truth and they really are man\u2019s best friend.<\/p>\n

Most countries train dogs to help people with blindness handle their daily life by themselves. United Kingdom is one of those countries. Unfortunately, Turkey does not enjoy such big help from dogs. It is very difficult to find a specially-trained dog for blind people in Turkey. In fact, getting help from animals in solving humane problems is not a common solution in Turkey. But this is about to change, thanks to Star the Dog.<\/p>\n

Maggie Moore is the wife of Richard Moore, the newly appointed British Ambassador to Turkey. What makes Maggie special is that she is blind, but continues her daily routine all by herself and her companion: Star the Dog.<\/p>\n

Also known as \u201cY\u0131ld\u0131z Han\u0131m\u201d, Star the Dog has attracted the attention of everyone in Ankara, the capitol of Turkey. Star the Dog also showed how dogs can save lives of many. In fact, there is already work done in order to achieve this target.<\/p>\n

With the help of a trained dog, a blind person can be independent and independence is very important. Getting and keeping a job, for example, requires independence and most blind people cannot work due to this problem. With trained dogs, people with blindness can both independently live their lives and help their community out.<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk Rehber K\u00f6pekler Derne\u011fi (TRKD – The Turkish Guide Dogs Association) is established in October 2014 by Nurdeniz Tuncer, a visually impaired lawyer. There is still plenty of work to do, such as attaining the necessary sources needed for training dogs, but first steps are already taken thanks to these two marvelous women. And, of course, Star the Dog.<\/p>\n
