Most historical artifacts in the city are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. The city first founded in the period of the Roman Empire. Fishing is the mainstay of locals. With the development of the city in time, under the name of the Republic of Venice, the city became an important trade center in the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to the interaction among the other countries, the city developed in the areas of art and architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official language is Italian and the currency is Euro as it is ruled by Italy and is a part of the EU. It is one of the oldest tourist and cultural centers. Today, it is introduced as part of the artistic and architectural legacy of humankind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venice founded in the Roman Empire, after the emperorship divided, started to be ruled by the Byzantine Empire. In 726 Venetians started to gain their independence and elected their duke. So, the population started to rise. In 1348 Black Death penetrated the city and the city put in quarantine in 1403.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the discovery of America, trade in Venice and the Mediterranean have lost their value. During the 17th century, Venice lost gradually power and influence. Although Venice loses value politically, the city became important in art. The Republic of Venice fell with Napoleon. Prussians took Venice and the city is occupied to Italy. The city which has importance in trade throughout history is an important touristic region today and make a living from tourism.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Where to Go in Venice<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Grand Canal<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Venice, the city of Canals, the city transports largely through canals. The Grand Canal is the central canal in which the city traffic flows. Locally known as Canalazzo has become the present-day following the old river. The canal was being used for trade since the Byzantine period, today, it provides the city transports with all public transportations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s approximately 4 kilometers long and includes hundreds of islands through the coast. All the historical buildings on the coast belonged to wealthy families. Today, those buildings are used as a hotel, museum, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rialto Bridge<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rialto Bridge is one of the four bridges over the Grand Canal. The bridge which is one of the symbols of the city is the most popular and was built in the 16th century. Antonio de Ponte is the architect. It\u2019s one of the most important examples of Renaissance architecture. Even though it was used for trade purposes in the past, today it\u2019s the most visited and photographed place by tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>San Marco Basilica<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Marco Basilica is one of the most popular buildings of Byzantine architecture. It\u2019s located in St. Mark\u2019s Square (Piazza San Marco) and it was built for the dukes in 828. Four bronze horse statue on the top of the basilica was defined as Quadriga in the Roman period and it was brought here during the Fourth Crusade from Constantinople by plunder. During the Napoleonic Wars, the French took the statue to Paris and was returned to Venice in 1815.
