Marilyn Monroe İngilizce Biyografi

Norma Jeane Mortenson, known as Marilyn Monroe, was born in Los Angeles on 1 June 1926. She was an American actress and model. She got famous with her roles as the stupid blondie in Hollywood comedy movies. She was one of the most famous stars and symbols of the 20th century. 

Even though she couldn’t get the change to play the head role at the movies for a long time, she got famous in her sudden death in 1962 and her movies got a revenue of 200 billion dollars. She’s still a famous figure, even today. 

Her Childhood

She was born in Los Angeles Community Hospital. She spent most of her childhood at protective family houses and orphanages. She lived with Bolender family who were too conservative and religious till she was 7. Then her mother Gladys bought a house and she started to live with her. But when her mother’s psychology got worse again, she got under the custody of her mother’s best friend, Grace Mckee. 

When Grace got married to Ervin Silliman Goddard in 1935, she was sent back to Los Angeles orphanage. Grace wanted to get her back 2 years later but as her husband harassed Monroe who was 9 then was sent to live with her aunt Olive Brugnings. 

There she was feeling uncomfortable about Olive’s sons. This is why she had to live with her other aunt, Ana Lower. After a while, Ana Lower got sick and Marilyn went back to Goddard house. 

Her Educational Life and Career

She was working at a photographers in 1944 during the war. There she met a photographer working for First Motion Picture and then started a good career of being a model. This career helped her making movie contracts with Twentieth Century-Fox and Columbia Pictures. 

She played in some short time TV series first. Then she made a new contract. In the following years, she played in movies like; As Young As You Feel and Monkey Business. There claimed some rumors about her claiming that some naked photos of her were taken before her career. Instead of harming her career, those rumors ended up with a rise of interest in her movies. 

In 1052, she played a woman having psychological problems in the movie titled ‘’Don’t Bother To Knock.’’ It was a B class movie but she convinced the criticizers that she could handle better roles. 

In 1953, she had already played in 3 movies and she was one of the most famous starts of Hollywood. She played the idiot blondie in movies like Men Prefer Blondies and How to Marry a Millionaire This style effected her career a lot but having played the same kind of roles all her career and not being paid well just disappointed her. 

In 1954, she founded a production company and she named the company as the Marilyn Monroe Productions. She dedicated herself to develop this company and took acting classes in Actors Studio. She showed a good performance in Bus Stop .Then she played the head role in The Prince and The Showgirl. Thanks to that, she was awarded with the Golden Globe for the best actress in 1959. 

Her Private Life

The child protection law of California didn’t let Goddards take her away from the state. This is why Monroe had to be sent back to the orphanage. As a solution, she got married to 21 years of son of their neighbors at the age of 16. James Doughtery was working in a company as a worker. Monroe quitted high school then and became a housewife. She found that marriage quite boring. 

She wanted to make a business contract with the 20th Century-Fox but the condition was that she couldn’t be married. So she got divorced after a 4 years of marriage.

After being alone for a while, it was said that she was seeing Joe DiMaggio. In 1954, they got married suddenly. It was the second marriage for both of them. Joe DiMaggio was an old-fashioned man who used to think that the women shall not work and stay at home. This caused some discussions between them. The jealousy was also playing a big role on the demolition of their marriage. Joe was a dangler man. After the rumors, they got divorced. 

Finally, Monroe met  American play-writer Arthur Miller during the shortage of As Young As You Feel. Arthur was married then and they were seeing each other secretly. When he got divorced with his first wife Mary Slatter, they got married in the June of 1956. 

This marriage was a big disappointment for Arthur. He was thinking that they weren’t proper for each other. After a marriage of 5 years, they got divorced. 

Although she got married 3 times, she had never had children. She just had a miscarriage during her marriage with Arthur Miller. 

Her Death

While she was playing the head role for the Misfits written by Arthur Miller, Monroe was having psychological and physical problems. So she was always late to the shortage and then she was hospitalized .She got divorced with Arthur after that movie. Then she had a deep depression and was treated in a clinic. She decided to act in a comedy movie in 1962 but she was keeping being late to the stage. Because of her irresponsibility, her contract was cancelled. But her partner at the movie didn’t want to work with another actress but her so her contact was renewed. 

She died in Los Angeles, just when she was 36, because of taking over dose sedatives before even being able to start the reshooting of the movie. 

In the autopsy done after her death, her death was considered to be a suicide as she took over dose barbiturate. On the other hands, because of the conflicting testimonies of the witnesses, the disappear of the tissue samples taken during the autopsy, there were other theories to be claimed but none of them were be able to proven to be true. 

Her funeral was delivered to her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio. Monroe was buried in Village Memorial Park Cemetery in 8 August 1962 with a funeral ceremony organized by Joe.

Filmlerde uzun süre başrol oynamasa da, 1962’de ani ölümüyle, büyük bir ün kazandı ve filmleri 200 milyon dolar hasılat elde etti.  Öyle ki Monroe, günümüzde halen popüler kültürün bilindik sembollerinden biridir. 

Çocukluğu

Los Angeles devlet hostesinde doğan Monroe, çocukluğunun büyük bir bölümünü koruyucu aile evlerinde ve yetimhanelerde geçirdi. Yedi yaşına kadar, aşırı dindar ve tutun bir aile olan Bolender ailesiyle yaşadı. Daha sonra annesi Gladys bir ev satın aldı ve Monroe tekrar onunla yaşamaya başladı. Ama annesinin akıl sağlığı tekrar kötüye gidince, Monroe annesini en yakın arkadaşı Grace Mckee’nin gözetimi altına girdi. 

Grace Mckee 1935 yılında Ervin Silliman Goddard’la evlenince, Los Angeles yetimhanesine geri gönderildi. İki yıl sonra Grace, Monroe’yu geri almak istese de, kocası küçük kıza cinsel tacizde bulununca, o zamanlar dokuz yaşında olan Monroe halası Olive Brugnings’in yanına gönderildi.

Burada da Olive’in oğulları onu rahat bırakmadı. Bu sebeple halası Ana Lower’ın yanına gitmek zorunda kaldı. Bir süre sonra Ana Lower’ın sağlığı bozuldu ve  Marily, Grave ve Ervin Goddard’ın yanına geri döndü.

Eğitim Hayatı ve Kariyeri

1944’de savaş sırasında bir  fotoğrafçıda çalışan Monroe, First Motion Picture Unit’ten bir fotoğrafçıyla tanıştı ve başarılı bir modellik kariyerine adım attı. Bu tanışıklık ona Twentieth Century-Fox ve Columbia Pictures’la film sözleşmeleri yapmasını sağladı. 

Önce birkaç küçük dizi de rol alan Monroe, 1951’de yeni bir sözleşme imzaladı. Bunu takiben, iki yıl boyunca Genç Hissetmek, Tehlikeli Oyun, gibi  birkaç filmde rol aldı. Böylece popüler bir oyuncu haline geldi. Bu süreçte kariyerine başlamadan önce çıplak fotoğraflar çektirdiğine dair dedikodular ortaya atıldı ama bu durum kariyerine zarar vermek yerine, filmlerine ilginin artmasıyla sonuçlandı. 

1952 yılında, ‘Don’t Bother to Knock’ isimli filmde, psikolojik sorunları olan bir rolde oynadı. Düşük bütçeli de olsa bu filmdeki rolüyle, eleştirmenleri daha iyi rollerinde üstesinden gelebileceğine ikna etmişti. 

1953 yılında, çoktan üç filmde yer almıştı ve Hollywood’un en yıldızlarından biriydi. Erkekler Sarışınları sever ve Milyoner Avcıları gibi filmlerde aptal sarışını oynadı. Bu imaj kariyerine büyük bir etki yaratsa da, hep aynı tür rollerde oynaması ve maaşının düşük olması onu hayal kırıklığına uğrattı. 

1954 yılında bir yapım şirketi kurdu ve bu şirkede Marilyn Monroe Productions adını verdi. Kendisini bu şirketi geliştirmeye adadı ve Actors Studio’da oyunculuk dersleri aldı. Otobüs Durağı adlı filmde başarlı bir oyunculuk sergileyip, Prens ve Şov kızı adlı ilk bağımsız filmde başrol oynayınca, 1959 yılında en iyi kadın oyuncu dalında altın küre ödülünü kazadı. 

Özel Hayatı

Kaliforniya Çocuk koruma kanunlarının Goddard ailesinin onu eyalet dışına götürmesine izin vermemesinden dolayı, Monroe yeniden yetimhaneye gitmek zorundaydı. Bu sebeple 16 yaşında, ailenin komşularının 21 yaşınaki oğullarıyla evlendi . James Doughtery bir fabrikada işçi olarak çalışıyordu. Monroe bu sırada liseyi bıraktı ve ev hanımı oldu. Bu evlilik ona oldukça sıkıcı geliyordu. 

Monroe 20th Century Fox’la bir iş anlaşması yapmak istiyordu ve bunun için evli olmaması şarttı. Bunun üzerine, dört yıllık bir evlilik sonucunda, çift yollarını ayırdı. 

Bir süre yalnız kaldıktan sonra adı Joe DiMaggio’yla anılmaya başladı. 1954 yılında ani bir kararla evlendiler. Bu ikisinin de ikinci evliliğiydi. Joe DiMaggio kadınların işinin evle ilgilenmek olduğunu düşünen eski kafalı bir adamdı. Bu durum aralarında tartışmalara yol açtı. Kıskançlık da ilişkilerini yıpratan en büyük olgulardan biriydi. Joe oldukça çapkın bir adamdı. Bir süre sonra çıkan dedikoduların ardından, çift boşandı. 

Son olarak, Monroe Genç Hissetmek filminin setinde Amerikalı oyun yazarı Arthur Miller’la tanıştı. O sıralar evli olan Arthurla gizlice görüşmeye devam etti. Arthur ilk eşi Mary Slatter’dan boşanınca, çift 1956 Haziran ayında, evlendi. 

Bu evlilik Arthur için bir hayal kırıklığıydı. Birbirlerine uygun olmadıklarını düşünüyordu. Beş yıllık bir evliliğin sonucunda, boşandılar. 

Üç kez evlenmesine rağmen, Monroe’nun hiç çocuğu olmadı. Yalnızca Arthur Miller’la evliliği sırasında bir düşük yaptı. 

Ölümü

Arthur Miller’ın senaryosunu yazdığı The Misfits filminde başrol oynayan Monroe’nun, set boyunca yaşadığı psikolojik ve fiziksel sorunları, alkol ve reçeteli hap bağımlılığı, iki sefer yorgunluk ve sinir bozukluğu sebebiyle hastaneye yatırıldı ve sete sürekli geç geliyordu. Monroe bu filmden sonra eşinden boşandı. Bu sırada, ağır bir depresyon geçirdi ve bir psikiyatri kliniğinde tedavi gördü. 1962 yılında bir komedi filminde oynamaya karar verdi. Ancak sete geç gelmeye devam ediyordu ve sorumsuz davranışları yüzünden sözleşmesi iptal edildi. Filmdeki rol arkadaşı başka bir aktrisle çalışmak istemediği için, Monroe’yla yeni bir sözleşme yapıldı.

 Filmin çekimlerine tekrar başlama fırsatı bulamadan, Monroe henüz 36 yaşındayken, Los Angeles’taki evinde, yüksek dozda sakinleştirici alması sebebiyle hayata gözlerini yumdu. 

Ölümünü ardından yapılan otopside, yüksek dozda barbitürat aldığından ötürü ölümü muhtemel bir intihar olarak göründü. Bunun yanında görgü tanıklarının çelişkili ifadeleri, otopside alınan dokuların ortadan kaybolması gibi sebeplerden ötürü bu konuda başka teoriler de ortaya atılsa da, hiçbirinin gerçekliği kanıtlanamadı. 

Monroe’nun bedeni, eski kocası Joe DiMaggio’ya teslim edildi. Monroe, Joe’nin düzenlediği bir cenaze töreniyle, 8 Ağustos 1962’de, Westwood Village Memorial Park Mezarlığı’nda toprağa verildi.
